Thanks for the info, Richard. Your experience does indeed sound similar.
Since getting back and talking about this with LAC, we have another theory. Apparently, the localizer uses two frequencies, and better indicators will flag if either one of them is suspect, while lesser indicators will show good so long as there is reasonable signal strength on either freq. That would explain why one of our HSIs flagged and the other did not (they are fully independent systems). I do also want to check the installation to verify that all is well, since these instruments are so critical to safe flight. --D.
